The first time I knew about Coursera Beta tester was from LinkedIn, someone post that he was selected and I was curious about it, I Google it and I found that anyone can apply, I filled the form and started waiting for an answer, I got an email after 1 month I thought I was rejected but they sent me a link to a course where you can start to learn more about your task and how to test courses.

After one week I got my first list of course to test:

So how does it work?

When you fill the form they ask you about the topics you want to review and in which you are comfortable with, I chose Machine learning and data science, because it’s my domain and I want to learn more, so I got an email with several courses to test and I have to choose one or two to review and you have 1 week to send a review form with several questions about the course and the quality of the content.

When I chose the course I want to review, I immediately started so I had all the videos, course materials and quizzes the only thing that I didn’t have is the final project.

One of the courses I reviewed was MLOps (Machine Learning Operations) Fundamentals From Google.

As any course you have a good quality and they wait for your feedback to improve it more.

I don’t know how to give feedbacks?

As you progress through the course, you may want to send them feedback about specific content. As a general rule, you send feedback directly in Coursera. You need to read the guide below on how to send feedback for each course content item.

When Sending Feedback

  1. Please be precise — tell them exactly what is wrong, and what they should consider to fix the problem.
  2. If something broken, or incorrect, they will prioritize these fixes first.
  3. Some feedback may not be actionable because of Coursera platform limitations. Even if this is the case, please file the feedback anyways.

For Videos, Readings, Quizzes, and Exercises

  • Thumbs up: This means you think it’s a good item
  • Thumbs down: This means the item doesn’t work or something is wrong
  • Flag: This means that you need to report a problem — here is where you need to be precise and explain exactly what is wrong so they can quickly address the problem.

Once you finish the course or at least one week from it you can send your feedback, the link is always send to your email address with the courses, you have some questions to answer and you can give your opinion on the course quality.

Is it paid?

No, it’s a volunteer work

If it’s not paid, why should I lose my time with it? What can you gain?

You have the opportunity to learn a course per week and know new things every week so if you are curious and you like challenge and learning new things this is a great opportunity.

If I got the email and I find that the courses are not in my field what can I do?

You can skip this week and wait for the next week to have another new list, just an advice when you fill the form to apply for Coursera beta tester makes sure to choose the right subject(s) for you, you can ask for one or more fields.

Should I finish the entire course in one week?

No, minimum one week from the course and send your feedbacks to them.

When should I not apply to Coursera beta tester?

Don’t apply if you want money or you think they will recruit you.
