Udacity Bertelsmann artificial intelligence (AI) Challenge Scholarship — My Journey
I am so happy to write this post as a fellow recipient of Udacity Bertelsmann AI Challenge Scholarship 2019 ( Course start date: Wednesday, November 20, 2019) . This is a journey that transformed my learning curve and gave me the confidence to go above and beyond.
How did I find about Udacity Bertelsmann Scholarship?
Early this year (2019), I was looking for a free course to learn more about AI (artificial intelligence) I saw a video on Youtube showing how I can get a “free” scholarship with Udacity and I was like “Wow this is amazing I need to get one”. There I was, reading all those scholarship and at that time I found Bertelsmann scholarship I read about the scholarship, completed my application and all what I need to do after is waiting for the email. Well, that couldn’t be possible without people who shares about opportunities through social networking sites- Really thank you! Your sharing has the potential to transform another person’s life. Let’s always keep sharing good opportunities.

Milestones in the Scholarship
- Application: As always with any scholarship, you need to send in your application.
- Selection for Challenge Scholarship: Out of the people applied 15,000 were chosen for the Scholarship Challenge Scholarship. This selection will be based on how you stated your case during your application.
- More about the Challenge Course: The selected 15,000 recipients were enrolled to Introduction to Deep Learning with PyTorch in Udacity. As Scholarship challenge course recipients. The lessons totally covered everything one needs to know from pure basics to the much-needed mastery. I credit my Pytorch expertise highly to this Challenge Course.
- Final Selection for Nano Degree Allotment: From the 15,000 enrolled students, 1,500 were to be selected to Phase II. We were told that the top performers from the Challenge Course will be awarded one of the following Nano Degree options –AI , Colud or Data Analyst.
How can I be selected to phase 2 ?
1. You have to finish all course materiel (courses, quizzes…) before deadline.
2. Your participation and engagement, we were provided a separate slack channel for this Challenge course through which we connected with each other and we should to be active on it.
Let me tell you about my best part.
- Many of us regularly met either offline or online, connected in person or through online portals to discuss group projects, many formed study groups both online and offline to encourage each other.
- The activity on the Slack cannot be mentioned in words. All those people from all around the world who want to learn share and create a better community. The vibe amongst the scholarship recipients is so encouraging that you will end up studying much more than you initially decided to. Trust me, a lot of time I connect to slack more than social media because it was all what I need, if you are active in Slack you will not give up on completing the course. You will stay motivated and driven- the community guarantees that for you.
- We have community managers for slack and every channel who make sure we discuss relevant and related topics. We have regular AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions to answer all our questions, announcements of various activities from Udacity and many others. An Udacity scholarship community is truly a safe place- thanks to our Community managers.
The learning received through this scholarship cannot be summed up in words. It’s an experience- and one has to go through it to know it. Various activities and engagements for this scholarship was taking which is managed by our Community Managers and during our Challenge Course like “Bingo game” an icebreaker questions, many of us engaged with projects, we don’t have a link to it yet but I will share it after finishing all the projects.
I would like to sum up a few things for anyone thinking of applying for Udacity Scholarship Challenge. The experience you get by interacting with Udacity community, which involves fellow learners from all over the world is one of its kind. You don’t need to worry if you are able to allocate 10 to 15 hours per week. This time is enough to stay on track and you can use your daily commute time to engage with the community and you will finish the course with not much hustle. This experience is to live not to describe :)
A big applause to Udacity community for the amazing learning experience. If you want to know more about my experience, please feel to contact me via LinkedIn or you can comment here. I’d always love to help a fellow learner.
Happy learning!!
